Sustainable Development at Genco Oil TOO
Building a more sustainable future through responsible energy use.
At Genco Oil TOO, sustainability is central to our business strategy. As a leading petroleum refining and energy solutions provider, we understand the important responsibility we have in supporting a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future. Our commitment to sustainable development goes beyond regulatory requirements—we actively pursue innovative approaches to reduce our carbon footprint, improve operational efficiency, and create positive social impact.
We are fully aligned with global energy transition objectives, climate action initiatives, and corporate sustainability principles, ensuring that our operations consistently uphold the highest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
Health, Safety, and Quality.
We are dedicated to delivering services that consistently meet our customers’ expectations in terms of quality, productivity, and safety, while promoting a workplace culture that supports learning, development, and continuous improvement across all areas of our operations. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) principles are applied at every level of the business and are fully integrated into our quality assurance system. New employees are introduced to Genco Oil TOO and its operations from their first day. All company information is stored electronically, and any incidents or deviations from procedures are recorded through web-enabled mobile devices on the intranet. This system ensures that the HSE framework remains current, well-maintained, and accessible globally at any time.
Refinery operations involve strict requirements for industrial and fire safety, as well as occupational health and safety. We implement both organizational and technical measures to prevent emergencies, reduce their impact, and ensure preparedness for effective response and containment. These actions help keep risks for both employees and the surrounding community within acceptable limits.
Genco Oil TOO places a strong emphasis on the health and safety of employees and contractors, encouraging a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. Our QHSE training programs and practices follow rigorous international standards. Certain operations within Genco Oil TOO carry a higher risk of injury. In 2022, two lost-time incidents occurred in Turkmenistan involving employees and a contractor. In line with our HSE procedures, all incidents were thoroughly investigated, root causes were identified, and corrective action plans were implemented.
HSE Leadership, Communication, and Awareness
In 2022, the Contractor HSE Performance Process was shared with all Contract Owners and C&P teams. Daily safety notifications from the QHSE department appear as pop-up alerts upon login, and HSE posters were displayed in key visible locations across the workplace. Monthly QHSE performance reports are also prepared and distributed to all staff to ensure consistent communication of safety performance.
HSE Rules
The safety program, initiated in 2021 and expanded in 2023, defines key safety standards for Genco Oil TOO. It is based on global best practices in the oil and gas industry and informed by incident data analysis. A Hazard Identification Program has been fully implemented for both employees and contractors, allowing anyone to report hazards, highlight unsafe or safe behaviors, and suggest improvements to HSE practices.
Equipment failure risk is assessed to determine appropriate maintenance strategies based on the criticality of each asset. This approach helps prioritize maintenance activities, especially when resources are limited. Safety-critical elements refer to devices, equipment, or systems essential for maintaining safe operating conditions or preventing process failures.
