Converting crude oil into refined fuels and valuable chemical products.
At Genco Oil TOO, petroleum refining is central to our operations. Backed by decades of experience in advanced refining techniques, modern facilities, and a strong focus on environmental responsibility, we efficiently transform crude oil into high-quality fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals, and other vital products that support industries, businesses, and consumers around the world.
Our refineries are engineered for optimal efficiency, high product yield, and sustainability. Using advanced technology, automation, and strict safety protocols, we produce premium petroleum products while fully complying with global industry standards.
Oil And Gas Production
Genco Oil TOO focuses on gas production and supply, while also increasing its processing capacity and generating energy through its own power facilities. To maintain optimal performance in petroleum gas utilization, the company applies advanced technology across all its operations. A key part of its integrated gas system is the processing of associated petroleum gas. Its gas processing plant is a modern facility that produces both dry stripped gas and liquid hydrocarbons, which are widely used in Kazakhstan’s industrial and commercial sectors. The company’s products meet national and Customs Union technical standards, ensuring high quality. In 2022, Global Asian Petroleum introduced an integrated gas processing expansion strategy by establishing a Gas Processing Division (UPG). In 2021, it planned to ship 1.3 million cubic meters of natural gas, LPG, and dry stripped gas, while Genco Oil TOO contributed about 12% of total gas shipments, selling 2 million cubic meters. Due to rising production, international gas sales increased by 3% year on year, reaching 2 million cubic meters. According to plans, full LPG processing was expected to begin in the first half of 2021, with propane and butane supplies to various customers starting at the same time. In the first year, around 160,000 tonnes of LPG were projected for export, mainly transported by rail to both domestic and international markets. Lower-cost fuel options and improved conditions in the local transport sector are expected to benefit drivers and public transport users. Additionally, LPG presents opportunities to replace gasoline and diesel in river transport. Within Kazakhstan’s Stavrolen petrochemical complex, three gas processing plants handle natural gas and natural gas liquids, converting associated petroleum gas into liquid hydrocarbons and marketable gas. Although oil and gas companies aim to expand gas infrastructure in the East, significant challenges remain. Genco Oil TOO has invested over six years in developing this area of operations.
Oil Refining
The Genco Oil TOO refinery processes 21 of 24 crude grades from the Bishkek Region and produces 15 types of petroleum products, including automotive gasoline, aviation kerosene, diesel fuel, fuel oil, petroleum coke, and others. It fully meets the country’s demand for petroleum products, with about 45% of its output exported. The facility is equipped with advanced technologies such as the ED-AV-6 initial refining unit (commissioned in 2014), a catalytic reforming unit (2013), a delayed coking unit (2015), and a catalytic cracking unit (2017). Key installations include the primary refining system, the ED-AV-6 electric desalter, and the fuel oil vacuum distillation unit. To improve product quality and comply with international standards, the refinery also uses alkali purification technology and produces naphthenic acid feedstock under licenses from the U.S.-based Merichem Company. The catalytic cracking unit, introduced in 2014, enables the production of high-octane gasoline, while the catalytic reformer, commissioned in 2013, has significantly enhanced the quality of gasoline and diesel outputs. In 2016, the refinery’s production included 20,000 tons of A-98 gasoline, 1,100,500 tons of A-92 gasoline, 12,400 tons of A-80 gasoline, 200,200 tons of kerosene, 2,000,000 tons of diesel fuel, 114,000 tons of liquefied gas, 133,300 tons of petroleum coke, and 110,300 tons of fuel oil.
Exploration
Genco Oil TOO conducts exploration activities aimed at expanding its resource base. The company has consistently achieved strong results, supported by the use of advanced exploration technologies and the careful selection of high-potential areas based on research findings. To improve the success rate of exploration drilling, Genco Oil continues to implement modern technologies for processing and interpreting geological data. In particular, innovative methods are applied to account for variations in the upper geological layers, helping to reduce forecasting errors in structural analysis. Exploration efforts have regularly produced positive outcomes. In 2015, the company completed 20 exploration wells, achieving a 59% success rate. In the Bishkek Region, including the Bolshekhetskaya Depression, as well as in the Caspian Sea area, 60% of exploratory wells were successful. During this period, the company also discovered five new fields and 51 deposits. These results reflect the effectiveness of its approach, which combines advanced technology with the selection of the most promising exploration sites. A key strategic objective for Genco Oil is to expand and strengthen its resource base, ensuring stable production and the ability to meet hydrocarbon output targets. The company actively pursues exploration work while expanding its portfolio of licenses, contributing to the steady replenishment of oil and gas reserves. Its operations are primarily located in Kazakhstan. In exploration activities, Genco Oil places strong emphasis on the use of modern technologies and equipment, supported by research and design institutes. This integrated approach enhances operational efficiency and improves overall exploration performance.
